The Nanopen is a multi-patented handheld cosmetic tool with extraordinary heads that comprise an array of pyramid-like microstructures, each point on the array has a diameter smaller than that of a single strand of human hair – almost invisible to the naked eye. For comparison, a normal hair has a diameter of about 80 micrometers. The diameter of the tip of our silicone pyramids is less than 10 micrometers.
Our unique heads are manufactured in the USA from pure mono – crystalline medical grade silicon, using advanced semiconductor fabrication technology.
Clinical studies have shown that the Nanopen nano-scale channels can help deliver ingredients up to 60 – 70 microns below the stratum corneum. When these “invisible” arrays are applied to the skin, they compromise the stratum corneum and temporarily open up transient channels for the delivery of nutrients into the deeper layer of the epidermis.
The stratum corneum is the main barrier to the absorption of ingredients of skin care products. Even the most potent skincare ingredients will have no effect if they are unable to reach their intended target. This makes the permeation of ingredients further into the epidermis more critical than ever in determining a product’s effectiveness.
The Nanopen achieves remarkable results by opening nano-scale channels in the skin for 10-20 minutes – increasingthe penetration and absorption rate of ingredientsas well as delivering them to the right location within the skin, maximizing and optimizing their efficacies.
There is no significant skin irritation with the treatment and thus no downtime, and because the Nanopen created nano-scale channels stay in the epidermal layer without reaching the dermis, where the nerves reside, there is no pain, bleeding or discomfort. It is safe, completely painless, and efficient. Moreover, no adverse effects whatsoever have been observed during human clinical trials.
The Nanopen is much safer than micro-needling. Because the pinnacles on the nano–pyramids are so much smaller than micro-needles, they create much smaller holes and don’t cause bleeding and infection like the standard stainless steel needles on all micro-needling rollers, pens, or machines.
Micro-needling poses a challenge to most who use it and in many territories it is not allowed to be used by estheticians/cosmeticians because of the risks associated with it. It can be dangerousif skin permeation is too deep – the dermal layer may be damaged, control of the release rate imprecise, and one risks bleeding, pain, infection, and potentially toxic side effects. If permeation is too shallow, the thin but tough stratum corneum will keep out the desired skincare ingredients.
At first glance, the Nanopen looks exactly like the pen systems used for classic needling. However, one of the key differences is that the head on the motor-driven device does not have needles. Instead it has a stamp with microscopic silicone pyramids. As the device does not use needles, there are no legal restrictions on its use in clinics or salons, nor is the device subject to the limitations of new regulations such as the DIN standard or the Medical Devices Act. Therefore, the Nanopen is permissible for estheticians/cosmeticians to use in all territories because of its demonstrated safety.
